Coffee Song of the Month: "Java Jive" by the King Sisters (1941)

In each issue, we'll be highlighting a song or musical composition whose theme is all about coffee!  This month's selection is the coffee tune classic "Java Jive" first sung by the Ink Spots in 1940, rising to #15 in the song charts.

In this clip from a 1941 movie, the four King Sisters (Luise, Alyce, Donna, and Vonnie), accompanied by Alvino Rey and his Orchestra, with Skeets Herfurt and Dick Morgan, perform the song The Java Jive, written by Milton Drake and Ben Oakland.

Java Jive - The King Sisters (1941)

The King Sisters were Mormons who later had a lot of kids and were supposedly a model for The Osmond Family.  Interesting factoid:  meant they were not allowed to drink coffee - even tea.
The lyrics include a “Mr Moto.” The Wikipedia entry for "Mr. Moto" implies that it refers to the Japanese secret agent they're referring to in the song from the movie "Mr. Moto in Danger Island," (1939) that was set in Puerto Rico and Trinidad.

Here are the lyrics in full:

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jiving and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

I love java, sweet and hot
Whoops! Mr. Moto, I'm a coffee pot
Shoot me the pot and I'll pour me a shot
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Oh, slip me a slug from the wonderful mug
And I cut a rug till I'm snug in a jug
A slice of onion and a raw one, draw one.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jiving and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Boston bean, soy bean
Lima bean, string bean.
You know that I'm not keen for a bean
Unless it is a cheery coffee bean.

Drop me a nickel in my pot, Joe, Taking it slow.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jiving and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup
